Moments in History Collection 678-342-6290
Mary Thompson started collecting moments in Black History seventeen years ago while helping her sixth grade son with a history project one February. He was given an "A" on the project but the problem was-his teacher sent for me to come and explain what the project was all about for she didn't have any knowledge about African American history. Oh Boy! I knew from that moment that if my two sons were going to learn about their heritage that it was going to be up to me. I began from that moment on to actively seek every piece of African American history that I could get my hands on. So living in Five states over the last 32 years has brought me in contact with over 2500 pictures and thousands of pages of research that I have collected. I do presentations at schools, groups, malls, fairs, festivals and organizations. I have recently included making custom collages to my offering as well as teaching a class at a public library. I also produced a 30 minute documentary DVD that connect the dots from Africa to 2008 for young people and leaves a positive view of our African American heritage. Our young ones need to know their story and love it. |
